My first stop on a long tour of palaces and gardens in Germany. I am trying to accomplish a big task in a short period of time, but I think I’ll pull it off. Ultimately I would like to find myself winding my way up a road from the village of Hohenschwangau to this castle.
There are possibly 20 or more palaces and adjoining gardens to view within the Berlin-Brandenburg area and many more than that in Bavaria (where Neuschwanstein is located).
The pictures below are from Charlottenburg Palace (German: Schloss Charlottenburg). The palace and accompanying gardens were built for the Prussian queen Sophia Charlotte. It would be her summer home and eventually expanded into a larger residence for subsequent rulers until it was opened to the public in the early 1900s.
Photography is prohibited(!) inside, of course, so if you would like to see the “Parade” bedroom of Frederick the Great, or the red chamber or Golden Gallery or vitreous bedroom of Sophia Charlotte or Freddy’s great library, you’re out of luck. But I can say all rooms, furniture and paintings (both original and replicas) are quite beautiful.
